Ashley Down Swimming Pool Roof

The swimming pool roof at Ashley Down College, Bristol had a Vitral glazing assembly at the ridge, which allowed natural light to enter the pool.

The roof was supported by two 'A' frames. The lower, larger frame was of metal construction and it supported a smaller wooden frame, which was integral to the raised apex.

The side timbers containing the pivot casement windows were rotten and the complete ridge had to be rebuilt. WR were able to do this in their workshop by constructing the sixty metre length in manageable sections. These were then assembled in the workshop before being dismantled and reassembled on site. The new refectory now has ambient natural light glinting through the roof.
